Game 83: Ellis pitches Flash to victory as Ankiel cools Monkey

Monkey, Flash tied with one to go

Brad needed Dock Ellis to pitch like he was on LSD.

And he got it.

Ellis pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing only one run with seven strikeouts to pitch the Fort Lauderdale Flash over the Golden Glovers 4-1 and move back into a tie for second place.

Todd Helton had a home run and Troy Tulowitzki added two hits in the victory.

Meanwhile, Rick Ankiel cooled the Chunky Monkey’s offense, pitching 8 2/3 innings, allowing only two hits with nine strikeouts as the Rolling Thunder won 5-2.

Of course, Ankiel did allow 10 walks, but Steve Garfunkel came on in the 9th with two runners on to get the save.

Mike Piazza was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI in the victory.
