WS Game 6: Yaz, C Johnson lift Rolling Thunder to World Title

Thunder claim third World Championship

Time to add another trophy to the Rolling Thunder case.

Carl Yastrezemski was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI, while Charles Johnson added three hits and two RBI to lead the Rolling Thunder past the Fort Lauderdale Flash 9-4 to win the Season 12 World Series.

The Thunder’s offense was explosive all series, hitting .332 as a team in the six-game series, while Johnson and was named MVP of the World Series.

Johnson hit .412 with two home runs and a team-leading 10 RBI. Johnson played in just four games — all Thunder wins — while Benito Santiago played in both of Thunder’s losses.

The Flash hit just .247 in the World Series, including .148 by league MVP Jimmie Foxx. He had just four hits and zero RBI.

Mr. Geek got the win, pitching 7 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts, while Greg Olson picked up the save. Babe Adams took the loss, giving up four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.

WS Game 5: Bonds helps Thunder pound Flash 12-8

Thunder take 3-2 series lead

Barry Bonds was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI, while Chris Davis and Charles Johnson each added home runs to lead the Rolling Thunder past the Fort Lauderdale Flash 12-8 in Game 5 of the World Series.

The Thunder are now one win away from winning their third MicroLeague title and second in three years. The Thunder’s lineup got to Brad Johnson again (eight earned runs in five innings) as well as Ace Adams, who gave up three hits and two earned runs in zero innings.

Greg Minton got the win in relief for the Thunder, while Joe Morgan was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI. Ryan Howard added three hits, a home run and two RBI fro the Flash.

WS Game 4: McGregor’s complete game paces Flash 2-1

Series tied 2-2

Scott McGregor pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run, to lead the Fort Lauderdale Flash over the Rolling Thunder 2-1 in Game 4 of the World Series, evening the series at 2.

Ryan Howard and Eddie Stanky each had an RBI for the Flash, while Carl Yastrzemski had a home run in the loss.

Decon Philippe took the loss, despite giving up only one earned run in eight innings.

In one of the more bizarre trends, Alfonso Soriano made two more errors, giving him seven errors in four games.

Tommie Holmes was 3 for 5 including a RBI to score Carl Yastrzemski in the bottom of the 10th with two outs to lift the Rolling Thunder past the Fort Lauderdale Flash 8-7 in Game 3 of the World Series.

Andres Galarraga had a home run and three RBI, while Yastrzemski added two RBI. Greg Minton got the win in relief, while Joe Ceda took the loss after allowing four walks. Joe Morgan was 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Flash.

WS Game 2: Thunder pound B Johnson to even series at 1

Carlton gets win in 14-6 victory

Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Charles Johnson each had two hits and three RBI to lead the Rolling Thunder past the Fort Lauderdale Flash 14-6 in Game 2 of the World Series.

Steve Carlton was good enough to get the win despite allowing five hits, four earned runs and seven walks. Brad Johnson got hammered giving up seven earned runs in the first inning to take the loss. Andres Galarraga added four hits for the Thunder, while Sammy Sosa was 2 for 6 with a home run and three RBI for the Flash.

Alfonso Soriano also set a MicroLeague record by committing five errors — and it somehow didn’t cost the Thunder.

WS Game 1: Flash use 8 walks to rally over Thunder

A Adams pitches four shutout innings

Greg Minton walked Joe Morgan with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th allowing the Fort Lauderdale Flash to beat the Rolling Thunder 6-5 and take Game 1 of the World Series.

Minton had five walks and four hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss, while Ace Adams picked up the win, giving up zero runs in four innings. Morgan and Jimmie Foxx each had two hits, while Andres Galarraga had a three-run home run for the Thunder.

Season 12 Awards: Foxx wins MVP; McGregor earns Cy Young

In the 12th annual MicroLeague awards, it was all about the Flash.

Scott McGregor was the unanimous Cy Young Award winner, while Jimmie Foxx earned MVP by taking home three of the four first-pace votes.

McGregor finished with a 10-2 record, the most wins in the league, a 3.66 ERA (second) and 1.278 WHIP (first). The Rolling Thunder’s Decon Philippe finished second.

Foxx earned MVP after finishing with a .303 average (6th), 23 home runs (5th) and 79 RBI (3rd). Only one other hitter was in the Top 8 of average, home runs and RBI — and finished fourth (Andres Galarraga) in the voting behind Barry Bonds, who was second and Sammy Sosa, who was third.
